Total Abortion Ban Threatens Women’s Health In This Caribbean Nation Says HRW

A total ban on abortion in one Caribbean nation threatens women’s health and lives and violates their rights, Human Rights Watch said in a report released Monday. Human Rights Watch interviewed 50 women and girls ages 15 to 43, in four provinces, all of whom had been pregnant at least once, and dozens of health and social service providers and other experts. The country’s criminal code imposes prison sentences of up to two years on women and girls who induce abortions and up to 20 years for medical professionals who provide them. Continue Reading

This Trinidadian Teen Is Fighting Obesity

A Trinidadian teen athlete has made it her mission in the past six years to fight childhood obesity. Dannielle Bennett, together with her mom, Doctor Michelle Trotman Bennett, and her father (Retired) Lieutenant Colonel Neil Bennett, again this year hosted an obesity awareness ride on Sunday November 18, 2018, under the theme: ‘Healthy Lifestyle through Sports for the Awareness of Obesity in Youth.”

The ride began from The Tacarigua Ophan Home, then stopping in Arima at the Dial, before continuing on to Sande Grande and the final stop at The Salybia Beach for a Health Fair and Awareness of Healthy Life Style. Medals and Prizes were handed out to the youngest and oldest riders with the greatest endurance. The distance between the Tacarigua Ophan Home and Salybia Beach Resort is 46.8 miles. About 90 riders took part in the ride. Grenada was represented by 13 riders and 12 riders, were from Tobago. The ride was sponsored by Anand Persad, of Hanover Construction Company Limited.
